Short Attention Span to Blame?
I was listening to a University of Tennessee professor talk about World War I and how it and the Second World War are so intertwined that many historians consider it one thirty years' war. He predicted that in the future, when we're more removed from the present, this view will predominate.
And I thought how funny it is that so few seem to see that the Iraq War as a continuation of the Gulf War, though politics is surely partly to blame. The Iraq and Gulf War are much closer both in time and cause (i.e. Hussein) than WWI & WWII, but I suppose our historical amnesia and shrinking attention span means that even a period of time as short as a decade has lengthened to thrice its size in our collective memory.
