Why the Orthodox Stand After Receiving Communion
Our Byzantine Catholic pastor explained that the reason why in the Eastern Rite you stand after receiving Communion. Holding a chalice aloft, he said we would be offended if he put the chalice, while filled with the Precious Blood, on the floor: "And you are holier than a cup." Similarly we stand to receive and stand afterwards because of the dignity conferred by Whom is within.
