Believing in God sometimes has the reputation of bourgeois conformity, at least among some of my co-workers, but a scriptural passage I happened across the other day proclaims exactly the opposite:
Pursuing futility, they themselves became futile through copying the nations round them, although Yahweh had ordered them not to act as they did. - 2 Kings 17:15"Pursuing futility" is especially piquant if haunting. It's easy to ape those around us and not seek first the Kingdom and thus end up pursuing futilities. On the same theme, Amy Welborn comments on an interview with the ordination of new auxiliary Daniel E. Flores: "Very nice. Don't allow us or our efforts to be defined by others, but only by Christ and what He calls us to."
