Thoughts Regarding Parousia
Reading Cardinal Ratzinger's Eschatology. It's amazing how prolific he is/was. He's the John Updike of ecclesiological writers.
Early in this book he explores how the gospel accounts give different slants on how soon the Second Coming would be; for Matthew it looks imminent, for Luke much less so.
I like that we have a Pope who has struggled with Scriptures, a scholar who has made it through the thicket of historical criticism with his faith intact, like Jacob wrestling with the angel.
