Morality in CoronaLand

Billy Cunningham of WLW radio fame asked Gov Dewine a blunt question: “My producer says covid overblown. He says over 99% of people don’t die from it and he’s going to live his life the way he wants. What do I tell him?” Dewine says, “tell him it’s not about him. If someone wants to get in a car and do 90mph on a deserted road and they get in a wreck, that’s okay, that’s their choice. But if they do it with children in the car that’s different.”

It’s an interesting question because you could look at it two ways: one is the DeWine way, that you should want to protect others by protecting yourself. The other way though is compelling too - it is that other people should not be so afraid of death and that you are not responsible for that overblown fear and that preserving one’s life on earth is not the most important thing.

My own selfishness is mostly that I don't want to get the virus for myself, alas. Not the most noble of reasons.
