A Poem For the Midterms

The great Mark Halperin posted a lot about the midterms, suggesting a red tsunami. I make no predictions but in case he's right and the team Red does win... (borrowing some of Halperin's evocative phrases).

Even through the sense-blinding haze we saw

that trio of devils - inflation, crime, Brandon

Wiping the mealtickets of the business-as-usuals

While patriots huddled near dropboxes and post offices.

Around their doorframes Blues affixed their masking tape

Tried their end-arounds and reverses

Charged the Trumpian cape to exhaustion

While old hoarse-throats echoed “Defund the Police!”

And donkey souls were washed ashore.

Roiling waters now threaten cheats

Blue homes built fat with mules and Zuckerbucks

Stirring a sleepy red polis to their senses

Sending out candidates athirst for equity.

From Rhode Island to Seattle,

the Blues sing the blues:

Where have you gone, Jimmy Comey?

The blue eyes turn their lonely orbs to you

Woo, woo, woo

What’s that you say, Mrs Oprah?

Joltin’ James has left and gone away...
